For those of you who have not participated in any of our Awareness Walks, maybe that is because when you’re living with lupus, the very thought of exercising can be painful. You’re tired, your joints ache, and you just want to rest. But research shows that exercise can help people with lupus build stronger muscles, prevent joint stiffness, control fatigue, and avoid weight gain. Exercise can improve your quality of life when you have lupus by helping to prevent fatigue. So, the LFSC is coming to your aid.
Taking time for yourself and finding activities that help you to relax and relieve stress are some ways to reduce the stress in your life. The LFSC is here to encourage you to get in the exercise routine. This is the 10th year of our Lupus Awareness Walk, but with a twist – it's a Virtual Walk. Which means you can walk at your own pace.
The 10th Annual Lupus Awareness Walk started on Sunday, July 30, 2017 and has been extended to end on Sunday, October 29, 2017. Walk 25 miles and you will receive a medal for your efforts. For those of you who have participated in our walks before, we look forward to seeing you! For those of you who have not walked with us before, we look forward to meeting you!
We are hoping you all will get together with your friends and family, whether in San Diego or across the country and form a team. It will help you stay motivated if you keep in touch with your team members, telling them how far you walked that day, and finding out how they are doing. Maybe you can have a race with your team members as to who walks 25 miles first.
